HOW IT ALL BEGAN…

The year was 2020, and across New York City, thousands of children – and their parents – were following “stay at home“ orders, the result of a raging pandemic. Workplaces, schools, and even recreational facilities were shuttered. Everyone, everywhere began looking for things to do to maintain their sanity and to keep boredom from setting in. With no end to the pandemic in sight, virtual everything became the “new normal”, and Decide2Differ was born.

 In late 2020, Decide2Differ, the creative arm of Decidedly Different Events (MWBE), a full service events production company, was contracted to create virtual art tutorials for Title I New York City public schools. Students across the city had gone months without extracurricular enrichment programming and were in dire need of outlets to not only stimulate their creativity but also to promote socio-emotional wellness. Focusing on art projects that could be created using common household supplies, the videos offered children an opportunity to independently complete engaging and unique projects. It also offered a reprieve for homebound parents, who (let’s face it) needed a break!

Decide2Differ is now offering the opportunity for artists of all types - children, parents, and everyone in between - to create unique, one-of-a-kind art projects, right from the comfort of their own home (or, wherever they happen to be trapped!). Have fun. Get messy. You have our permission to create decidedly different art.
